How many steps a day do you take and do you suffer from pain, fatigue or discomfort in your feet? Please keep reading for more information.
Arch pain is the sharp, stabbing pain that occurs mid-foot when you stand for long periods of time with your weight fully on your foot. It is a common complaint, that can affect anyone, not only runners who might put their foot through heavy performance. In fact, it can come on any time that you stand on your feet in shoes that don’t provide ample support. Arch pain is caused by the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is a thick tissue that connects the bottom of the foot to the toes. When you stand, the plantar fascia stretches and tightens. Over time, the plantar fascia can become inflamed, irritated, and swollen. This causes pain and can severely disrupt your day-to-day life.
The arches of the foot
The human foot is fascinating. If you’ve ever walked barefoot in the sand, you’ve probably noticed the imprint your foot leaves behind as you step forward. For most adults, there’s a gap on the inner side of the imprint between the ball of the foot and the heel. That’s where the arches of the foot are. (Babies and toddlers don’t have an arch. In fact, children only develop an arch when they’re 3 to 10 years old.)
Each foot has three arches – two longitudinal (lengthwise across the foot) and one transverse (side to side across the foot). The lateral longitudinal arch is on the outside of the foot, while the medial one is on the inside. Together, these two arches support the transverse arch.
What causes pain in the arch of the foot?
Most people with flat feet have pain at some point in their lives. It is a complex condition involving many different factors, but the most common cause of arch pain is the weakening of the arch. The arch is simply a curve in the foot where the bones meet. It’s a natural part of your body and a normal characteristic of all humans. The arch helps the foot absorb shock when you walk or run. The arch can be weakened by many different things. These might be age, injury, flat feet, wearing high heels and more.
Here are a few of the most common causes of arch pain:
Aging: As we age, our bones and muscles can weaken, which can lead to arch pain. Obesity: Carrying around extra weight puts added strain on our feet, which can cause arch pain. Pregnancy: The added weight and changes in a woman’s body during pregnancy can lead to arch pain. Flat feet: If you have flat feet, the lack of support can lead to arch pain. High heels: Wearing high heels can put extra strain on your feet and lead to arch pain.
What can you do if you have arch pain?
Many treatment options exist. The treatments may have you rest, stretch, strengthen, change your shoe selection, or use non-custom arch supports, custom orthotics, night splints, and anti-inflammatories, or as a last resort- surgery. Usually, these kinds of foot-related problems can be treated successfully by tailoring treatment to an individual’s situation.

Posture is the overall position in which you hold your body while standing, sitting or lying down. It is often used to describe how someone holds himself or herself, or how someone’s body is positioned relative to the environment they find themselves in. Posture can sometimes also be used to describe the condition of a person’s health.
Good posture and bad posture
Good posture is about maintaining a natural alignment of your joints and muscles. It is about keeping them in the best possible condition so that you are ready to move freely, with good balance and without pain. Bad posture happens when your joints and muscles are out of alignment.
Bad posture can be caused by many things such as: stress, injury, incorrect lifting, incorrect sitting, incorrect exercise, slouching, spending long periods of time on your computer, or even by a genetic condition.
Bad Posture Vs. Back Pain
Bad posture can lead to a number of problems, one of the most common of which isback pain. This is caused by the muscles in the lower back getting tight, while the muscles in the upper back and the shoulders get weak. The reasons for this imbalance may include sitting in a chair for long hours in front of a laptop or at a desk. It may also be the result of incorrect lifting of heavy weights, improper alignment of the body while walking or even sleeping in an awkward position.
Other related problems caused by bad posture: Bad posture also causes tension in the neck, shoulders and upper back. The neck muscles get overworked, which can lead to headaches and an aching neck.
Bad posture also affects the lungs, causing breathlessness and tightness in the chest. It can also lead to heartburn and acid reflux, as well as digestive issues like constipation and indigestion. In addition to all that, bad posture can affect your mood. It can add to your feeling angry, sad, anxious and depressed. It can also make you more irritable and even provoke mood swings.

Injuries are painful and can be very hard to recover from, but luckily there is help. Chiropractors have been helping patients resolved pain for years. Their treatments can help your body to heal, relax and feel better. Chiropractors can help you with a wide variety of problems, from back pain to migraines. Here’s how a chiropractor can help you get through your difficult times.
Vancouver Chiropractor Treatment: What to expect?
Chiropractic is a non-surgical, drug-free method of treatment offered by Vancouver Orthotic Clinics. There are several types of chiropractic. The most common type is “adjustment” or “spinal manipulation”. The purpose of this treatment is to reduce pressure on the spinal nerves. The nerves are responsible for pain and other abnormal conditions. When the nerves are compressed, the condition is worsened. An adjustment restores the proper alignment of the spine, which reduces pain and allows the body to heal itself. Chiropractic is ideal for any condition that causes pain.
Pain Relieving Chiropractic Treatment: What is it?
Pain is one of the most common issues that people face in a lifetime. It is an unpleasant experience that can impact various aspects of your life and quality of life. If you are suffering from pain, you may want to consider getting the help of a chiropractor. A chiropractor is a licensed medical professional who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. He or she uses a combination of physical manipulation, exercises, and health education to help you relieve your pain. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose and treat a wide array of conditions, from musculoskeletal problems such as back pain and neck pain to headaches, sleep disorders, and stress-related problems.
How long does it take for a chiropractic adjustment to settle?
A chiropractor can help to fix pains in the back, neck, and joints. When you visit a chiropractor, you will be advised about adjustments to the spine, which can help to relieve tension and relieve pain. The chiropractor manipulates the vertebrae to realign the spine, which can help to reduce pain. People who experience lower back pain often have a misalignment in their spine, which is what a chiropractor can help to fix. A chiropractor will use a number of different techniques to manipulate the spine and help to relieve pain. The length of time it takes for an adjustment to settle will depend on the severity of the condition. For minor back pain, it can take a few days for the adjustment to settle. In some cases, adjustments can take up to a week to settle. If you experience severe pain, you may need to make a follow up appointment to allow the adjustment to settle.
How do you know if a chiropractor treatment is working?
There is a lot of confusion about chiropractic care. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of bad information. One question that often comes up is how to tell if a chiropractor is working. Some people think that when a chiropractor manipulates a joint in their body, they should feel some pain. This is not the case. Pain is a signal that something is wrong. When a joint is out of alignment, it does not work properly. The body will try to protect the area by putting muscles into spasm. It will essentially “lock” the joint in a position to prevent further damage. For example, in scoliosis, the spine is curved in one direction. The muscles along the spine will tighten up to protect the spine and prevent further damage. This not only hurts, but it can cause other serious problems like breathing problems, digestive problems and a host of other things.

Flat feet (also known as fallen arches) is a condition where the arch of the foot is flattened or lowered. This can cause the foot to appear wide or flat. The arch of the foot is made up of many small bones and ligaments that run from the heel to the toes. These ligaments support the arch of the foot and allow the foot to flex. When the ligaments are stretched or damaged, they can no longer support the arch. The result is a flat or fallen arch.
What causes flat feet or fallen arches?
Flat feet or fallen arches cause a lot of discomfort for the affected person. These conditions will often lead to back and joint pain, arch pain and pain in your heels. There are also other symptoms of flat feet such as leg pains, muscle cramps and fatigue. If you experience any of these symptoms regularly, it is likely you have flat feet or fallen arches.
The main cause of flat feet is the fact that your arches have fallen. The foot will then be flat, with the sole of the foot facing downwards. There are a few factors that can cause the arch to fall, these include:
lack of exercise
overweight
pregnancy
high heels
moving toes outwards when walking
old age
What can you do about your flat feet or fallen arches?
Flat feet or fallen arches are a common condition that can affect your quality of life. There are many ways to treat flat feet or fallen arches, and the best way to treat them is to get them diagnosed. The most common treatment for flat feet and fallen arches is to wear a custom orthotic. A custom orthotic is a special shoe insert that can help balance your feet and relieve the pain you’re feeling. They are especially useful for people who are looking for extra support and protection, or those who want to improve their posture.
Flat feet can be controlled by taking the right steps to make sure that you walk or run properly throughout your day’s activity.

Have you ever had a headache? I bet you have! Most of us have at some time or another. Some of us get them frequently. Headaches are a common problem, and are one of the most common reasons for visits to the doctor’s office.
Headaches can be solved with daily stretching
Most people get headaches because they are stressed. When we are stressed, our muscles get tense, and that can cause us to have headaches. If you sit at a computer all day, you are likely to get a stiff neck and shoulders. If you experience headaches a lot, try doing some daily stretching. It can help.
Stretching your neck and shoulders, as well as your upper back, before sitting at your computer can help, and stretching your neck and shoulders every hour or so while you are working can help even more.
How to get rid of headaches with some simple stretches?
In this video, Deanna will help demonstrate some stretches that are great if you are experiencing headaches. Watch here:
The Benefits of Stretching
Stretching, physical activity, and regular chiropractic check-ups are all key components of maintaining spinal hygiene. By incorporating all three into your routine, you can work towards perfect posture and prevent small pains and aches from becoming bigger problems.
Stretching is known to have many great health benefits. Here is a list of some:
Increased Energy
Improved Mood (less stress, anxiety & depression)
Improved Sleep & Restfulness
Reduced Pain & Discomfort
Decreased Body Tension (so you’ll feel looser)
Reduced Chronic Disease when combined with exercise (like Diabetes 2 & cardiovascular disease)
Increased Bone Calcium (with weight-bearing activity)
Increased Muscle Elasticity & Pliability
Better Joint Mobility & Lubrication
Daily stretching relieves headaches and is good for your overall health improvement
Stretching not only provides you with a better, more efficient workout, but it also helps to improve your overall health. Not only does stretching improve your flexibility, but it also helps to increase your range of motion and can help to relieve headaches. If you’re looking for a quick and simple way to improve your overall health, it is definitely worth giving stretching a try.
When you combine stretching, physical activity and regular chiropractic check-ups as part of your routine, you can work towards perfect posture and prevent small pains and aches from becoming bigger problems.

Overpronation is a gait abnormality in which the foot rolls inward excessively. The excessive inward rolling of the foot is often associated with flat feet. However, contrary to popular belief, overpronation is not caused by flat feet.
How does overpronation differ from flat feet?
Overpronation is often confused with flat feet which is a condition where the arches of the feet are low. In overpronation, however, the feet are not flat and the arches are not low. In overpronation, the foot rolls tends to roll inward excessively at the same time as the toes point downward and the heel lifts off the ground. Overpronation is often associated with many common foot and lower leg injuries.
What happens when you overpronate?
As a result of the foot rolling inward excessively, there is wear on the underside of the heel or the inside of the shoe. Pronation is a normal part of walking. It happens as your foot strikes the ground and your foot rolls inward. This allows your foot to absorb shock as you walk. If you overpronate, you may roll inward too much and so your foot also can’t land completely flat on the ground. The outer edge of your foot and the ball of your foot hit the ground first. As your foot rolls inward, it flattens and the arch collapses. Over time, this can cause foot pain and contribute to injuries of the knee, hip and lower back.
How do I know if I have flat-feet or overpronation?
Flat feet is typically passed on genetically, however overuse and poor footwear may also be a trigger. The best way to determine your arch status is to have your feet examined. Always assess arch height in the weight bearing position. Check to see how many centimeters are between the apex of your inside arch and the ground. Is it at or under 3cm? Then you are over-pronated. Under 1cm? You are likely flat footed.
How can overpronation be corrected?
Over-pronation, while very common and in fact, a normal part of walking, can lead to a number of problems. These include: Plantar fasciitis, shin splints, Achilles tendonitis, ankle sprains, and toe deformities, such as hammer toes and bunions. Excessive pronation leads to increased wear and tear of the body, as well as a higher risk of injuries. It is important to treat overpronation to avoid injuries and ensure an overall healthy body.
Over-pronation is hard to self-correct. There are, however, some foot exercises that can help support and develop a fallen arch. With the use of custom orthotic inserts and supportive footwear, arch height and alignment can be corrected. Non-custom insoles do very little to offer correction.
Custom Orthotics Help Treat Foot Related Issues
Poor shock-absorption and alignment of the feet can affect the biomechanics of weight distribution. Custom orthotics can make a huge difference. Dr. Michael Horowitz & Associates offer a unique 5-Step process to successfully treat flat feet or over-pronation. They can help examine, diagnose and treat your condition as well as recommend the best course of action for you. Step lively and well into the holiday season! Take care of yourself heels to head at Vancouver Orthotic Clinics with convenient locations in BC’s Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Use your Extended Health Care Benefits before they expire and let them get to work helping you to better posture and with it a brighter outlook. In today’s post we look at how you can avoid heel pain, heel spurs and what you need to know about ICBC’s coverage if you are in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) and sustain soft tissue injuries.
What causes heel pain?
Did you know your heel is the largest bone in your foot, and its only one of 26 bones that make up your foot and ankle? In addition there are 33 joints and more than 100 tendons supporting a part of your body that takes you everywhere you want to go in life!
You can see why Vancouver Orthotic Clinics say your feet are the foundation of good posture so your good health starts from the ground up!
Now imagine all that potential pressure through your weight bearing joints as you walk or run those 5,000-10,000 steps as part of your daily movement plan.
As a result you might experience heel pain or discomfort from heel spurs. Each step you take either helps or harms depending on whether your feet are in good alignment and biomechanics so that your steps are working with ease or efficiency.
Several common causes of heel pain are:
Plantar fasciitis – when too much pressure on your feet damages the plantar fascia ligament, causing pain and stiffness.
Sprains and strains – which are minor to severe injuries that result from physical activity.
Fractures – broken bones constitute a medical emergency
Achilles tendonitis – is the pain due to inflammation of the tendon that attaches calf muscles to the heel that comes with strain and overuse
Bursitis, arthritis and other less common yet painful and concerning medical conditions can cause heel pain.
What causes heel spurs?
Your body responds to stress and strain on your foot on your foot ligaments and tendons. It may create a heel spur or bony growth that pokes out from the bottom of your heel and that will impact your gait or ability to balance and walk, or irritate the ligament running between your heel and the ball of your foot. About 15% of people are affected by heel spurs. Yet, we can be unaware of what is developing until we have heel pain.
Feeling heel pain is incredibly uncomfortable and yet we see people coming into our clinics after suffering for weeks or months. Their heel pain is often worse in the morning or when they are standing up or after sitting. In some cases, each step just plain hurts.
People often suffer with heel pain for weeks if not months, but there’s no need! The team at Vancouver Orthotic Clinics helps patients looking for relief yet wanting to avoid surgery or cortisone shots.
Symptoms such as heel pain or heel spurs may develop due to poor shock-absorption from your feet or footwear. Since at Vancouver Orthotic Clinics we look at your health from the ‘Ground Up’ – we recommend you come in to get a proper exam and diagnosis.
Heel Spurs can be successfully treated with the support of custom orthotic inserts.
Custom orthotic inserts can help alleviate the inflammation and over time the heel spur will resolve (reabsorb) itself. Heel spur pads are often included with the inserts to provide extra support and cushioning. For help at home before and after your appointment at the Vancouver Orthotic Clinic nearest to you, see Dr. Michael’s video 16 Ways to Treat Heel Pain and Heel Spurs
