What are the main Causes of Patellofemoral Syndrome?
Overuse injuries such as running or jumping sports puts repetitive stress on your knee joint, which can cause irritation under the kneecap. Muscle imbalances or weaknesses may contribute. Patellofemoral pain can occur when the muscles around your hip and knee don’t keep your kneecap properly aligned. Inward movement of the knee during a squat has been found to be associated with patellofemoral pain. This alignment issue may start out with the biomechanics of the feet so it’s important that the feet are addressed.
How do I treat & prevent Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome?
Maintain strength through limited weight bearing activity. Think alignment of the feet & the knee. Consider technique. Cut down on excessive weight. Always warm-up and increase activity intensity gradually.
