Heel Pain, Heel Spurs and Health Benefits on the agenda
Hi everybody. Dr. Michael Horowitz here, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Chiropractor and owner of Vancouver Orthotic Clinics. Today, we cover heel pain and heel spurs as part of your health care. Ahead of the tips I have for you to avoid or alleviate discomfort, I’m taking time to note two things in this month of November.
First, let’s take time to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served our country and to acknowledge our appreciation of the peace and freedoms they fought to secure for us in the past.
We have so much to be grateful for including our present day health and wellbeing.
So, my second reminder is simply the phrase: USE IT or LOSE it. Remember to add to your wellness by using your extended health benefits to care for yourself rather than lose them to expiry at year’s end.
Why not make good use of your health benefits for services such as chiropractic, massage, physio and dental. Let’s not forget care for your foundation at every step – your balance, stability and shock-absorption with foot support from custom orthotic inserts.
Because our days are now shorter and darker it’s smart to keep to your health goals and step lively towards all we can look forward to. You are always encouraged to include movement in your favourite form!
If your choice is to walk, aim for 5,000-10,000 steps according to your ability and comfort level! Of course, each step as you walk or run, represents potential pressure through your weight bearing joints.
As a result you might experience heel pain or discomfort from heel spurs. This is because each step you take either helps or harms depending on whether the alignment and biomechanics to each step are working with ease or efficiency.
Symptoms such as heel pain or heel spurs may develop due to poor shock-absorption from your feet or footwear. Since at Vancouver Orthotic Clinics we look at your health from the ‘Ground Up’ – we recommend you come in to get your feet checked at one of our clinics – there’s one at a convenient location to you.
If you have pain now, or wish to avoid it – try these tips to alleviate pain until you get a chance to come in for a proper examination:
- When you experience heel pain – take the hint and listen to your body. Rest up! Reduce the number of steps you take each day and evaluate your footwear. Minimalistic shoes provide very little support.
- Use a cold foot bath at the end of the day to reduce swelling in achy feet.
- Gently massage the bottom of the foot – rolling your foot on a tennis ball on the floor will do nicely.
When you come in to have your feet examined, we can do more. We can make sure you get an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan. Where advisable, you’ll be fitted with custom orthotic inserts, which provide:
- Improved foot alignment
- Enhanced shock-absorption
- Better balance and stability with each step
Remember that perfect posture starts from the ‘ground up’. Have your feet examined and get a proper diagnosis, which goes a long way towards resolving and managing your symptoms to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
At Vancouver Orthotic Clinics – Our Team enjoys meeting new people, solving problems and being of service to help patients improve their posture and get out of pain!
You may be a candidate for better foot alignment, balance, stability and overall all shock-absorption. All this may also help improve your posture. You can have your feet examined with our Electronic Gait Scan & the newest 3D Foot Scanning technology.
